Preparation and Water Absorption Properties of Porous Chitosan Fiber

Abstract

|
Porous chitosan fibers were prepared by extraction PVA component in the blend fiber of chitosan and PVA. It has been studied on the water absorption and mechanical properties of the porous chitosan fibers in order to evaluate whether it is possible to use the porous chitosan fibers for hygienic goods. Water absorption property of the non-crosslinked porous chitosan fiber was good when the solid content was 2 wt% and the ratio of chitosan/PVA was 7/3. And water absorption Property of the crosslinked porous chitosan fiber with 0.5 wt% glutaraldehyde showed good absorbency when the ratio of chitosan/PVA was 8/2. It is possible to use the porous chitosan fiber for the top sheet of baby diaper and various kind of hygienic goods such as sanitary napkin, wet wipes, etc.
